The past few years, I realized that I was not meant to be a gardener or someone who could take care of plants. I get a reminder to water the plants twice a week, and guess what? I no longer have any plants. They’ve all died under my care. It is enough to blow a woman’s confidence. You are probably thinking; it can’t be that bad, yes it can. I killed a cactus. The easiest plant to take care of, and I killed it. I still mourn the loss of my beautiful plants. I don’t have an autopsy report of what went wrong. It could have been from overwatering, lack of watering, sunlight, or maybe my house is a plant killer. Let’s go with that thought! My house is the plant killer.
Last year, I was redeemed when I started a small garden in my backyard. Now, before you get all excited, it was nothing special. I tilted the earth, threw seed into the ground, added fertilizers and dirt, and prayed that something would grow. There was no order by which the plants were planted. I did not even think anything would come out of it because, as you’ve probably have gotten to know me by now, I tried it before and failed the previous year. I got bins, fertilizers, seeds and attempted to grow something in my yard, and nothing grew. I think I seeded too early, and there was heavy rain the month of May 2020, and I think my seeds may have been washed away.
Anyway, in 2021, I successfully brought new life into being, and I cannot even explain the sense of accomplishment and pride I felt. I thank God for listening to my prayers and allowing me to see what is possible when I persevere and continue to attempt and do my best. I harvested!!!

It is January 2022, and I am already thinking about planting this year. I want to plant beans, tomatoes, peppers, squash again this year. I might attempt to grow some other things, but I am not sure yet what those might be.
Anyway, I have started to create a list of things that I am going to need for this coming year planting season. My next step is to figure when the best time will be to start planting. Last year, I started in June, and I think I can start a lot earlier to get a better harvest. I will be keeping you all updated on how my little garden fair this year.
