3 Miles a Day: My Journey to a Healthier (and Happier) Me

Look no further than a walk&period; As part of the <a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;growthandfaith&period;com&sol;2024&sol;02&sol;09&sol;walk-hydrate-fast-your-key-to-healthier-happier-you-join-the-challenge&sol;">90-Day Journey to a Healthier You challenge<&sol;a>&comma; I have aimed for a 3-mile-a-day goal&comma; which has been a game-changer&period; But honestly&comma; it has been hard to achieve even that goal daily&period; In this blog&comma; I will share a few of the benefits of walking consistently and some challenges I have experienced&period; <&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Let’s be honest&semi; we are all humans&comma; and there are days when we all want to relax&period; Getting out of bed can seem like a chore and planning to add a 3-mile walk to the day can be the most daunting concept&period; Additionally&comma; adding in the soreness from walking and managing other health issues can make it nearly impossible to stay consistent and committed to achieving the goal&period; Especially when the couch is so inviting and feel so safe&period; <&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">Yet&comma; when we don’t feel like we can’t go any further and still decide to move forward&comma; we can feel the most incredible sense of achievement&period; At times&comma; it is essential to be reminded of the positive benefits of that simple&comma; humble 3-mile walk&period;&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading">Benefits of Daily Walk<&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>Walking is a natural stress reliever&comma; promoting the release of endorphins that improve mood and combat anxiety&period; In modern times&comma; there are so many people battling with mental health issues&period; J<a href&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;www&period;hopkinsmedicine&period;org&sol;health&sol;wellness-and-prevention&sol;mental-health-disorder-statistics">ohn Hopkins estimated that 1 in 4 American adults suffer from mental health disorders<&sol;a>&comma; and over 9&percnt; of people experience depressive illness&period; Taking a walk outside could be a tool people use to combat mental illness&period; It can provide a chance to unwind&comma; listen to music&comma; or connect with friends and family&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>Walking strengthens your heart and lungs&comma; reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease&comma; the leading cause of death globally&period; It can also help build and maintain muscle mass&comma; improve bone density&comma; and contribute to weight management&period;<&sol;li>&NewLine;<&sol;ul>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<h2 class&equals;"wp-block-heading">Challenges of Daily Walk<&sol;h2>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<ul class&equals;"wp-block-list">&NewLine;<li>Finding the motivation to get up and move at times can be challenging&period; Especially with our busy schedule&comma; finding time to go for a walk can be hard&period; Also&comma; weather conditions&comma; such as rain&comma; extreme heat&comma; and cold&comma; can be a hurdle&comma; especially if you don’t have the proper gear&period; <&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>Pre-existing and physical conditions&comma; such as joint pain&comma; sciatica&comma; blisters&comma; injuries&comma; etc&period;&comma; can make it hard to stay committed and consistent&period; <&sol;li>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<li>Safety concerns with walking in unfamiliar areas or at night&comma; especially for women&comma; can deter people from staying active&period; <&sol;li>&NewLine;<&sol;ul>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph">However&comma; there are potential solutions to mitigate some of the challenges&period; It could be as simple as taking short 7 to 10-minute walks instead of walking for a more extended period&period; Schedule the walk in a familiar area first thing in the morning or use a treadmill at a fitness center if your finances allow&period; If not&comma; you can walk around your house&period; There are days when my schedule is so packed that I transfer my remote meetings&comma; put on my headset&comma; and walk around the house&period; It is not my preferred method for walking because I love the fresh air and feeling the wind on my face outdoors&period; Nevertheless&comma; the goal is to get your step in and move in whatever way works for you&period; <&sol;p>&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;&NewLine;<p class&equals;"wp-block-paragraph"><strong>And so&comma;
